Battery Day 2026

Batteries play a key role in the energy transition and in the development of a sustainable and competitive industry. At the same time, a strong European battery industry requires technological innovation, production capacity, talent and closer cross-border cooperation.

That is what Battery Day 2026 is all about. This year, Germany is the host country, with a particular focus on bringing together Dutch and German companies and research institutions.

From innovation to a strong European battery industry

Battery Day covers the entire battery value chain: from materials and battery cell production to applications, battery management systems and recycling.

The programme examines key developments and challenges facing the battery sector, including:

• scaling up battery cell production and bringing new technology to market;
• new generations of battery technology and innovative materials;
• Battery Management Systems (BMS) and smart battery applications;
• European legislation and regulations, and what they mean for business owners;
• the talent and skills needed to drive further growth in the battery sector;
• European funding opportunities for innovation and upscaling;
• finding international technology and project partners.

A key moment during Battery Day is the launch of the National Battery Action Agenda. Dutch scale-ups such as LeydenJar, LionVolt, ORE Energy, WMC and Tulip Tech will also be sharing their latest developments and experiences.

With Germany as the host country, there is also a strong focus on Dutch-German cooperation. Companies and research institutions from both countries are exploring how they can better link knowledge, technology and value chains, thereby strengthening Europe’s position in battery technology.

Building the Dutch battery ecosystem together

Oost NL is a partner of the Battery Competence Cluster – NL (BCC-NL). Within BCC-NL, innovative companies, leading research institutions, national trade associations and public authorities work together to strengthen the Dutch battery ecosystem.

BCC-NL is organised by Brainport Development, RAI Automotive Industry NL and Oost NL, together with partners such as ARN and TNO, which lead various focus areas within BCC-NL.

Battery Day brings this network together. For entrepreneurs, it is an opportunity to gain new insights, meet potential partners, explore funding opportunities and forge connections that can accelerate innovation and upscaling.
