As in previous years, SME entrepreneurs will be able to apply for the SME Innovation Stimulation Top Sectors (MIT) South grant program in 2021. This week the dates of the opening were announced. The conditions in 2021 are significantly different from previous years: to be eligible, the innovations must contribute to one of four social missions or to one of the so-called key technologies.

New set-up

The set-up of the instruments in 2021 has significant changes compared to MIT 2020. An important change is the transition to the mission-driven policy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. The mission-driven innovation policy means that within MIT South 2021 innovations must be focused on one of the following societal missions (1 to 4) or on one of the Key Enabling Technologies (no. 5):

  1. Energy transition and sustainability;
  2. Agriculture, water and food;
  3. Health and care;
  4. Safety;
  5. Key technologies.

These five themes are explained in more detail within the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs) on the Stimulus website. In addition, there is the document that addresses the general terms and conditions of the MIT South grant funding.

Opening Dates

The opening dates are as follows:

  • For MIT Feasibility (first come, first serve): 20 April 2021 9:00 am to 9 September 5:00 pm
  • For MIT R&D collaboration (tender process): 1 June 2021 9:00 am to 9 September 5:00 pm
