Opportunities for food tourism in Limburg

In early 2019, the Province of Limburg commissioned research into the associations that Dutch people have with food and drink in Limburg, the culinary image of the province and the market share of culinary activities during vacations and days out.

Activities around regional products popular

Culinary activities related to regional products are the most undertaken. Limburg scores above average in almost all activities. Visits to breweries are especially popular (around 30%).

Limburg most culinary province

Dutch people associate Limburg mainly with flan, beer, asparagus and sauerkraut. Only 20% of the people surveyed have no food association with Limburg, which is lower than average.
Of all the provinces surveyed, Limburg has the best culinary image. Limburg received the highest image scores on the aspects 'food and drink is a strong point of this province' and 'inhabitants of this province know how to enjoy the good life'. Some 70% of respondents agree or strongly agree with these statements.

Getting more out of Limburg

The results of this research reinforce FoodLab Limburg's conviction that the culinary image of Limburg still offers plenty of opportunities: for agrofood and tourism.
