Limburg has no shortage of initiatives. It does have a shortage of cohesion. Too often starting over instead of connecting - and what that means for talent - read my new column.

Lately, I have been catching myself increasingly looking with wonder at how we deal with talent in Limburg. Not because too little is happening. On the contrary. Everywhere in the region I see energy. New initiatives. Projects. People who put their heart and soul into inspiring young people, developing talent and moving businesses forward. And yet something gnaws at me. Because no matter how good all these initiatives are, they don't always find each other. We start, build and innovate - but we connect too little.

Talent disappearing between systems. Initiatives trying to achieve the same thing, without knowing of each other's existence. Time, money and energy going into rebuilding something that already exists somewhere else. That is a waste. And, frankly, unnecessary.

The basis in Limburg is good. In fact: there is already a lot there. The challenge is not in doing more, but in finally really connecting what is already there. In recognising what works and scaling it up. In having the courage not to start all over again, but to build further together.

What drives me personally, and why I work for CHILL, is the belief that we can only do this well together. As a proud Limburger, I want our region to flourish. That talent not only gets trained here, but also stays here. And that requires more than isolated successes. It requires cohesion. In my work, I see daily how powerful it is when things do come together. When education and business find each other. When a student not only does a project, but also finds a place to grow. When initiatives reinforce each other instead of co-existing. But I also see the opposite.

Because talent development is not a sum of separate initiatives. It is a chain. From first introduction to a sustainable place in the region. And that chain is as strong as the connections between it. For me, therefore, the question is not whether we are doing enough. The question is: are we doing enough together? Because talent development requires a long breath. But above all it requires a willingness to really work together.
