Education offensive against cybercrime in Limburg

In Limburg, a large-scale campaign targeting digital crime will start in February. The goal of the educational offensive, titled "Dacht het niet!", is to raise awareness and change behavior.

Didn't Think It!, refers to the phrase that business owners, young people, seniors and all others at risk of coming into contact with cybercriminals need to remember, according to the initiators. "Thought not!" should become a natural reflex when someone is asked online to provide certain confidential information. By posing as acquaintances of the victim, criminals in many cases manage to do great damage.

Ddos attack

Business owners, seniors and young people in particular are sought-after victims of cyber criminals, according to Taskforce Cyber Limburg, the initiator of the campaign. Taskforce Cyber Limburg is a collaboration of several organizations including the province, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Platform for Safe Entrepreneurship (PVO) and the security regions.

That seemingly simple actions can lead to tremendous damage became clear again last week in a ddos attack on Surf, a cooperative to which more than a hundred research and educational institutions are affiliated. The attack - and its consequences - completely paralyzed large parts of education for an extended period.
