Cooloo: developer of sustainable coatings for existing or new furniture

Cooloo aims to disruptively change the polluting and conservative furniture industry by developing new technologies, materials and solutions for outdated and wasteful upholstery processes.

In Cooloo's own research and development department, coatings and materials are developed with the best sustainable properties for interior and industrial applications. Cooloo reduces its carbon footprint by using the highest quality materials that are solvent and CFC free to create sustainable coatings. The focus is on converting local waste streams into high-quality coatings at the point of origin. Ultimately, Cooloo particularly wants to be a development company that licenses its techniques.

"We need to make that transition to a circular economy now, through 2050. Those big companies are hopping on that. And if we can connect to that with a good idea, we're going to be able to generate impact very quickly. We think."

Tip for other entrepreneurs 

My tip for entrepreneurs who want to do sustainable business: "Just go do it. You can't do it right the first time. You can't become circular all at once. You can't become 100% sustainable all at once. But if you at least start doing it already and you speak out to yourself that you want to and are going to do it, then this is going to resonate within your company. Then other networks will start to emerge, other partnerships will start to emerge. And you're going to see that there are ideas within your company and there are plenty of companies around you that can help you.

Don't be afraid to make a mistake now and then. To do something that doesn't work out. Dare to fail, then you'll have learned again what doesn't work and at the next step you can make something that works better than the previous one. And so slowly step by step 'do-do-do', then that solution will come naturally."
