Fiber crops: from land to property
The Dutch construction industry is developing rapidly. International trends, innovations and laws and regulations underlie this. For example, themes such as sustainability, circularity and the nitrogen issue have been much discussed in recent years. And also for agriculture there are challenging times in which nitrogen reduction is a daily concern.
There is also a major challenge for the construction industry. Can we in the Netherlands meet the task of building 900,000 homes and insulating 6,000,000 before 2030? And can we do that within the Paris climate agreements and from existing building practices? The answer is hard but clear: no! But there is a solution, and that is the switch to bio-based building.
An equally great challenge exists for the agricultural sector. Are there alternative earning models for the farmer so that the agricultural sector can be sustainably preserved? The answer is: yes! And here, too, the solution is biobased building.
Event: 'Fiber crops from land to property'
LIOF, in cooperation with Rabobank, the Province of Limburg and the Platform Nieuwe Teelten Limburg, is organizing the event 'Fiber Crops: from land to property' on Thursday, March 30. The aim of this event is to work together towards the primary use of more sustainable building materials and thus to work towards a different earnings model for farmers. More with less: meeting the large housing demand but building with less CO2 emissions. Because the construction challenge in Limburg is also great: 26,550 homes must be built before 2030.
The following themes are central: can fiber crops play a role in making the construction industry more sustainable? What role can agriculture play in this process? What is the earning model for the farmer? How far along is the market? In what situations can the cultivation of fiber crops offer sustainable perspective for farmer and builder?
Are you active in construction or agriculture? Would you like to join us in taking the first steps towards sustainable housing? Then come on March 30 to Villa Flora in Venlo, Villafloraweg 1.
