For the fourth year in a row, Food100 has published the list of the most important food changers in the Netherlands. All persons in the list have made their contribution to a better food system in a special and individual way. This year there are twice as many Limburgers on it than last year, both familiar names and newcomers.

About Food100

Food100 is a network of established leaders and up-and-coming talent. The network aims to connect food generations, inspire established leadership and provide opportunities for the new generation to shape the future with new initiatives. Therefore, 50 changemakers under the age of 30 and 50 gamechangers over the age of 30 are chosen.

Four criteria determine whether a candidate earns a spot on the list:

  • Deficiency: the extent to which the candidate succeeds in actually accomplishing goals
  • Innovativeness: the extent to which the candidate is innovative in a field and thus sets an example
  • People, planet, profit: the extent to which the candidate has a broad view of sustainability in the agri-food sector
  • Share: The extent to which the candidate is able to share his or her knowledge, network and insights

Limburg food changers

These are the six names from Limburg that have been included in the 2020 Food100 list:

  • Frank van Eerd of the Bisschopsmolen and Grainlabs: for the fourth time in a row, this entrepreneur from Maastricht is on the list. You can read more about the secret behind this success in the interview we had with him.
  • Jan-Paul Rutten of Gulpener Bierbrouwerij: for years this farmer brewer has been winning awards in the field of sustainability. Currently under construction is the most sustainable brewhouse in Europe.
  • Jan Kuijpers of Kuijpers Kip: this poultry farmer puts the focus on sustainability in the company where the entire chain from egg to slaughterhouse is carried out. Under the name De Kloeke Kip, the final product reaches consumers.
  • Mark Venner of Leuker Food Forest: earlier this year we wrote about how, after a crowdfunding campaign, Mark started the planting a food forest in Baexem
  • Peter van Rosmalen of PaperWise: agricultural waste becomes high-quality, sustainable paper and cardboard thanks to this entrepreneur from Weert. Leaves and stems left over from the harvest are used to produce, among other things, printing and copying paper
  • Samefko Ludidi of Dr. Ludidi: this health expert from Maastricht is known as nutrition coach of kickboxer Badr Hari and the book 'De dr. Ludidi Fasting Method - Intermittent fasting: responsible fasting for everyone'.
