Cattle farmers who want to invest in new techniques that help reduce pollutant emissions can take advantage of the Subsidy Modules source-focused sustainability of stall and management measures (Sbv). This scheme opens for participation on May 25.

In the livestock sector, the emission of certain substances from livestock housing, such as ammonia and particulate matter, has a negative impact on public health, the quality of the environment and nature, and the climate. The cabinet has made € 172 million available to support farmers who want to invest in innovative and sustainable stables.

Two modules

The Sbv consists of two modules that farmers in each sector can use: an innovation module and an investment module. The innovation module can be used when a farmer has a new idea for a technique or management measure in the barn. With this module the farmer can develop and test his/her idea and then start using it. The investment module focuses on the further rollout and use of proven innovations. These are then measured and are on a list of proven techniques. Then the new techniques can be brought to market.

Opening

The innovation module of the Sbv will be available first and will be opened in stages per (animal) sector. The pig, dairy goat, dairy cattle and veal calf farmers can be the first to make use of the subsidies for innovation. The innovation module will open for registration for the first time on May 25, 2020 and will close on July 15, 2020. The poultry industry is the first to qualify for the second module, the investment module. This is expected to open in early July. The modules will open twice a year through 2024.
