A camera that can predict the quality of a seed before it goes into the ground. This high-tech technology will soon be available to Limburg seed breeders at Brightlands Campus Greenport in Venlo.
The Apeldoorn-based company Seqso developed the smart camera system for the seed sector. The cost of the system is high, but with help from the province, Innoveins Seed Solutions can put the camera into operation. The device is now still in Meterik, but in the future it will be made available at Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo.
The camera can look inside the seed and inspect it thoroughly. According to Niels Peeters, director of Innoveins Seed Solutions, the seed breeding sector in Limburg can benefit considerably from this investment. According to the latest CBS registration (2017), Limburg has 96 companies involved in seed breeding and raising young plants, making it the largest seed producer in the Netherlands.
