As part of the series 'The Hungry City', the talk show 'More food from the short chain' took place at Pakhuis de Zwijger on June 16. The reason for this theme was the sudden popularity of local food as a result of the corona crisis. Local farmers and food producers who could no longer sell their products to the catering industry started looking for creative solutions to sell their products directly to consumers. And consumers eagerly answered the call to buy local. But is it a temporary phenomenon or is the short chain the future?
Talkshow
At the table are Drees Peter van den Bosch, chairman of the Short Chain Taskforce and Nadia Zerouali, cookbook author, chef and taste maker Flevocampus. In conversation with presenter Natasja van den Berg they share their vision of the future of the short chain. Other experts such as dairy farmer Irene Prinsen-Bruins and Professor of Animal Production Systems Imke de Boer will supplement the discussion with their knowledge and experiences.
It is clear that the corona crisis plays a major role. It has brought opportunities and obstacles to the surface and put the subject on the map on the demand side. Positive elements like the cooperation between parties are mentioned, but also obstacles like setting up logistics, the small sales market and the mentality of the consumer are discussed. The participants agree on the importance of picking up the momentum.
