From 17 May onwards, knowledge providers as well as partnerships can apply for subsidies for working together on innovations that lead to a sustainable future-proof Limburg agriculture and horticulture. This is under the banner of the Rural Development Programme 2014-2022 Limburg (POP3). Activities and projects that fall under this heading contribute to set goals of the provincial agriculture and horticulture policy, as expressed in "Koers naar de toekomst".

Knowledge providers

In order to achieve a sustainable future-proof agriculture, the sharing of knowledge is crucial. This involves knowledge transfer (roll-out) to groups of entrepreneurs with the aim of making already proven knowledge and innovations available and to start applying them on a larger scale in practice. Think of workshops, information campaigns, study groups, workshops, joint coaching of entrepreneurs and demonstrations.

Cooperative ventures

To achieve a sustainable future-proof agriculture, cooperation is crucial. This is to improve the return and image of the primary sectors, but also the quality of the living environment. It is about knowledge, innovations and crossovers that contribute to the realization of societal challenges. To promote sustainability, bridges are needed between knowledge and technology on the one hand and farmers, businesses, chains, forest managers, rural communities, advisory services, etc. on the other.

The intended partnerships will work on an innovation task that must answer a concrete question or opportunity from practice. It concerns in particular the further development, validation and refinement of knowledge and innovations also aimed at their large-scale application in practice.

Limburg thus wants to actively contribute to the new standard for sustainable/circular agriculture. With this ambition, Limburg chooses, in line with national policy, for a meaningful transition in the agrifood sector. No longer is the reduction of the cost price per unit product central, but the transition to a more sustainable/circular approach.

The POP3 themes as well as the four investment lines of "Heading for the Future", namely: - mission-driven innovation, - circular production, - stronger in the market chain and - cross-border connectivity, offer starting points for this.

The specific conditions concerning the submission of a subsidy application are listed on the provincial website. The selection of applications takes place via a tender by an independent external advisory committee based on the selection criteria and weighting used in the opening. Gedeputeerde Staten (Provincial Executive) takes the final decision.
