Europe, the national government and the provinces are working together to strengthen the Dutch countryside under the name POP3. An important theme of this program is innovation. Agriculture must continue to innovate so that new earning opportunities arise for farmers and market gardeners and so that agriculture becomes more sustainable. This could involve a new technique, a new product or the renewal of a process.
Innovative projects made possible by the POP3 scheme are shared on the online platform Network Rural. For example, 7 Limburg innovative projects can be found on this platform:
- A completely emission-free cultivation system for leeks from the ground based on 'dry fog' with minerals.
- Biodiversity fruit growing
- Development of innovative gladiolus varieties that are resistant to dry rot.
- A waterbed dryer for processing and drying residual flows from arable farming and field vegetables so that pet food with products of plant origin can be developed.
- Development of an LED lighting system in a group of roses measuring effect on cultivation, taste and smell.
- Living Lab of dairy farmers for cultivation of meadow herbs and processing them in (roughage) feed
- Agricorder rapid test for head rot in onions
