Ruud Pothoven has been named the winner of The Best Idea of Pigland with his idea for a mobile slaughterhouse. During the finals on 28 May 2019, he received the prize from jury chairman Pieter van Hout. The theme of this edition was animal welfare. Ideas from finalists ranged from a new more environmentally friendly flooring system to artificial turf in the pig barn.
Together with the public, the jury judged that a mobile slaughterhouse is easy to fit in, is scalable and makes an impact quickly. It is easy to realize and also increases the job satisfaction of the pig farmer. In addition, Pothoven had also calculated the earnings model in a thorough manner.

As winner Pothoven received a voucher to bring the idea to further realization. He also made an immediate appeal for further funding. The voucher will give the winning idea the chance to be fully developed into an implementable concept that will contribute to further improvement of the sector.
