As of 23 January, farmers and social parties can report their initiatives for circular agriculture to the digital counter 'Doe mee met de omslag naar kringlooplandbouw'of Minister Schouten. A 'Think-me-group' of farmers has also been formed to jointly investigate what is needed to realize this vision.

Circulation agriculture is a joint search by farmers, citizens, businesses and researchers to find out how available resources can be used as efficiently and economically as possible and how to reduce waste of biomass. In this way we try to keep the outflow and inflow of resources equal.

Many farmers innovate on the farm itself. The aim of the information desk is to bring together the knowledge and experiences of agricultural entrepreneurs and translate them into action perspectives for farmers. Schouten also wants to use the information desk to link the business community, social organizations, knowledge institutes and regional authorities. This group will draw up an implementation plan in which they set concrete goals and determine the conditions for a successful transition to circular agriculture.

A number of actions that are important for the transition to circular agriculture have already been set in motion, such as the restructuring of pig farming, making crop protection and livestock farming more sustainable, and the revision of the lease policy.

Realization plan ready before summer

The realization plan will be presented before the summer with concrete goals. The main questions are: Are we able to come up with innovations that help farmers develop in the direction of circular agriculture? And will this enable farmers to earn a good income?
The five tasks to be achieved by 2030:

  1. 1. Strengthen the position of the farmer, horticulturist and fisherman in the chain
  2. 2. Increase appreciation of food and strengthen the farmer-citizen bond
  3. 3. Strengthen synergy of agriculture and nature
  4. 4. Make livestock farming more sustainable
  5. 5. Recalibrating the international strategy of the Netherlands as a leader in circular agriculture
