The LimburgAgrofood program has only existed since the beginning of 2018, but since then LIOF has already financially supported 100 Limburg agrofood entrepreneurs with their innovative projects. A great success for the program and the sector.

About LimburgAgrofood

The Province of Limburg is committed to strengthening the agrofood sector in Limburg through the LimburgAgrofood (LA) program. With LIOF as executor, LA started in February 2018 to support entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector to innovate and strengthen the competitive position of their companies. The goal of the program, besides connecting entrepreneurs through online and offline communities, was to initiate, develop and financially support 90 innovative projects over a period of 3 years. This goal has already been exceeded after more than 1½ years.

Hubert Mackus, Commissioner for Agriculture, Landscape and Mobility: "The Province of Limburg supports the LimburgAgrofood program with conviction. We are proud of the innovative power of Limburg agri-food entrepreneurs.

Crossovers with manufacturing industry and logistics

.

In the video at the bottom of this news item, various entrepreneurs talk about their innovations and ambitions. The similarity between all entrepreneurs is that they want to take their company and the sector to the next level. Many of the LimburgAgrofood initiatives are strongly linked to developments such as robotization, sensorics, big data and the Internet of Things. Through close crossovers with the manufacturing and logistics sectors, many new innovation projects have been initiated.

Driven by these new and cross-sector developments, the entrepreneurs contribute to relevant social themes such as circular agriculture, healthy and sustainable food. For example, Piglets Treatment Systems used the LA innovation project to develop a prototype for an antibiotic gun. This reduces the amount of antibiotics and creates transparency in the pig chain.

Cardboard grower Brookberries participated in two knowledge projects via LIOF to research healthy substances in strawberries and to use big data to gain insight into the effect of light types on ingredients and taste.

FreeSoil is a technology that enables the production of strawberries with a high level of sustainability.

FreeSoil makes an organic compost enriched with microorganisms as an alternative to fertilizer and crop protection for healthier plants, more vibrant soil and higher crop yield and quality.

And through the innovation project, FI&S will develop plant-based alternatives to cooking ham, bacon and bacon by regenerating oyster mushroom feet.

What can LIOF offer agro-food entrepreneurs?

Despite this milestone, LA's mission is certainly not over. The LA Business Developers continue to help entrepreneurs innovate and grow. This can be financially, but also by translating an idea into a business plan, or by optimizing an existing business plan. Kiempunt Limburg also remains the place where LIOF, together with its partners, shares knowledge about innovations.
