Limburg entrepreneurs create new gin together

A 'NO BULLSHIT' gin. That's how the new Mr Jigs gin is presented to the world. The spirits are the result of a unique Limburg collaboration between a hotelier, distiller and herbalist.

Mr Jigs

Mr Jigs is the concept of the Venlo entrepreneur Gijs Hendrikx. The success of his Theaterhotel Venlo tasted like more and so he will soon open a second hotel, named Mr Jigs, in the same city. This week Hendrikx already presented a pop-up hotel room in downtown Venlo, showing the atmosphere of the upcoming hotel.

In addition to the pop-up hotel room, a gin of the same name was also presented. This gin is the result of a Limburg collaboration between Hendrikx, the Stookery Norbeeck from Norbeek and herb grower Vitacress Real from Venlo.

The idea arose during a drink of two gin lovers. According to them, the gin with the perfect ingredients did not yet exist, so why not make it yourself? It started with some experiments of their own and led to making contacts with the experts. And so a special collaboration came about.

Stookery Norbeeck

A few years ago the artisanal Stookery Norbeeck in Norbeek became known for Sterkwater, a South Limburg variant of the famous Italian grappa. This drink is made from the grapes that remain after the grapes are pressed at the winery. Sterkwater is distilled in an authentic and traditional way from Chardonnay grapes coming from the vineyards Crutzberg and Noordal in South Limburg.

In the meantime, liqueurs are also made, as much as possible with local ingredients. For example, the organic honey from Norbeek is the basis of the Beerenvanger, a honey liqueur after an ancient recipe. Another example is the Vlierefluiter, a liqueur made from hand-picked elderflower from the fields around Noorbeek.

Vitacress Real

For the new gin, Stookery Norbeeck brings the knowledge surrounding the distilling process. To achieve the right flavor palette, the expertise of Vitacress Real was called in. This herbalist from Venlo delivers fresh herbs from areas where the product grows in the most natural and sustainable way. For the gin, a nice fresh, but also a little spicy flavor was chosen.

Limburg hills

Mr Jigs is a gin distilled with honest and traditional products. 'Small batch distilled and bottled in the South of the Netherlands' is the text on the label, above an illustration of the Limburg hills.
