Three Brightlands Limburg companies Grassa, Vertoro and Hy2care won a spot in the European Venture Contest in Düsseldorf with their pitches last week. This means they can put themselves in the international spotlight and get in touch with leading investors.
The three companies presented themselves, along with another 40 companies, to panels of interested investors during the Benelux Venture Forum, part of the TechTour, at the Brightlands Campuses in Geleen and Heerlen and on location at LIOF.
Growing
More than sixty investment funds from mainly Europe, but also from the US and Asia visited this conference to get in touch with promising start-ups and companies that need capital to grow.
According to Léon Klinkers, director of the Brightlands Innovation Factory, which is primarily involved in supporting startups on the Limburg campuses, Limburg is becoming increasingly known as an innovative region. And this in the field of biomaterials, sustainability, fine chemicals, data management and as a location for established and young companies in the medical sector.
Tys van Elk, director of LIOF: "As LIOF, we help startups and relaunchers with venture capital, but above five million we usually have to be careful. Here were investors who do have the means to support an entrepreneur, for example, with building a pilot plant, a production facility or international expansion."
MEDLIM
There was a lot of interest in the MEDLIM project, a collaboration between Medtronic, LIOF, Maastricht University and the Brightlands Campuses to further develop the region as a hub for medical devices. "Very promising," says Tys van Elk. "Many investors see opportunities in this."
