Tuesday, February 4, in Valkenburg aan de Geul, the first group of 12 students who opted for a customized training program of FoodLab Limburg started. Alderman Claudia Bisschops, FoodLab program leader John Kromhout and account manager for corporate training Natascha van Haren of VISTA college gave the starting signal for this new form of training: a course tailored to the company and the student, which delivers a recognized mbo diploma. Eight students are going for the cook course, four for host/hostess.
Collaborating
Kromhout: "We think it's great to start with these students, they are all people who want to go for it. It also illustrates that we in the Limburg hospitality industry and education are ready for a new way of working. Training differently, largely on the job, working together to strengthen the image of the sector and thus working step by step to solve the staff shortages."
Diversity
The diversity in background of the students indicates the importance of customization: the previous education varies greatly, there are 4 different nationalities and the ages range from 19 to 46 years. In the coming weeks it will become clear which experience and knowledge is already present and which learning path is necessary to obtain the diploma. Student, company and training together determine the most appropriate learning path for each individual.
Big and small companies
Not only the larger hospitality companies such as Thermae 2000 register employees for a customized program. Smaller restaurants such as Mes Amis in Maastricht and Restaurant de Munt are also participating.
Businesses can receive compensation when participating, as a significant part of the learning process takes place at the workplace. The learning coach from the training is therefore regularly to be found there.
