The 'Green in your environment' project for first-year students at Citaverde College has been nominated for the national Green Education Impact Prize. Projects of VMBO-green schools that in one way or another have impact on food, climate, and/or quality of life could compete for the prize. The prize will be presented at the GroenPact Manifestation on 16 January 2019 by Minister Carola Schouten of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).

Within the project 'Green in your environment' the focus is on how green the school environment actually is. Subsequently, the students of Citaverde College came up with their own green ideas for the school, such as the 'smulhaag', where herbs, vegetables and fruit were grown and harvested. These products were then prepared in their own kitchens, sometimes with the help of a chef. In addition, students thought about insect pollination for this tasty hedge. An insect hotel was built and a mountain for sand bees was created.

Cooperating with businesses

Companies and institutions from the region also collaborated on the project. Consultancy firm Alles over groenbeheer taught the pupils about plants and trees. The Nature and Environment Education Center (NMC) and care farm Bosserhof showed the students their insect hotels and shared their knowledge about butterflies. Pupils in turn advised the NMC, the care farm and the school on how to make the green environment even more attractive.

Manifestation Green Pact

On 16 January it will be announced which project has been chosen by the jury as the winner of the Green Education Impact Prize. More information about this award can be found on the website of Groen Kennisnet. Soon all nominees will appear with a video on the site of Green Knowledge Net.
