More than 3,000 children in Limburg, divided among some 100 primary schools, will be working in nature during the IKL outdoor work days. And of course that makes them thirsty! LLLTB, on behalf of the Limburg fruit growers, is therefore handing out free apples to mark the end of the day.

Short chain

The LLTB hopes that this action will draw more attention to the short chain. Susanne Görtz is LLTB board member and a fruit grower herself. She explains: "We have recently seen how committed children are to the climate. We use this opportunity to explain to them that it is better to consume as many vegetables, meat, dairy and fruit from their own region as possible. They can then pay attention to this when they go shopping with mom and dad.

IKL

In addition, of course, the local apples are delicious and healthy. The first lucky ones were the children of elementary school De Maaskei in Stein. After their work in the Steinerbos there was an apple for everyone. IKL director Herman Vrehen was also present to taste one. Since 1981 the IKL foundation has put its heart and soul into the preservation and development of the landscape of Limburg.
