Schreurs Plantenkwekerij helped Gipmans Planten out of the fire last year when the company was hit by severe hail damage. "That's how you get to know each other," says Erik Gipmans. "Twan Schreurs turned out not to have a successor, while we all have to make large capital investments that we can only recoup over several years." Schreurs will continue to operate independently for the time being.

Learn from each other and innovate

Both companies think they can learn from each other. Gipmans: "Schreurs is a super efficient company with short lines, from which we will learn a lot." Both companies are also working on innovation. Since last year, Gipmans has been conducting trials with vertical horticulture and is continuing them this year. Through the acquisition, the Venlo region will profile itself even more with seed companies and plant nursery as the Western European nursery for young plants.

Gipmans and Schreurs

Gipmans grows vegetable plants for outdoor and greenhouse cultivation and has a large-scale cultivation of fresh herbs. With 130 permanent employees and 250 seasonal workers, Gipmans is a major player in the industry. Schreurs is considerably smaller with 22 employees and raises seed into vegetable plants for outdoor growers in the region and Germany.
