Tennet recently updated Limburg deputy Van Gaans-Gijbels and special coordinator for transport scarcity Ben Voorhorst on the content of the investment plans. In these talks, TenneT and the province discussed which measures could be taken to end the damaging connection ban for large-scale consumers as soon as possible. On the basis of this dialogue, the Province of Limburg is convinced that the completion of the Graetheide 380kV substation in 2028/29 desired by Chemelot and Central and South Limburg is necessary and feasible.
Constructieve houding
Van Gaans-Gijbels, member of the Provincial Executive responsible for this matter: "I am pleased with the constructive attitude, the discussions and the cooperation between the provinces, municipalities and other parties involved on the one hand, and Tennet on the other. This offers room to discuss TenneT's investment plan, so that sufficient comfort and security can be offered, which are necessary to solve the problems for Limburg's society, economy and energy transition within the necessary time frame. I therefore see the IP as a starting point for further discussions about possibilities for a successful and rapid approach by Mr Voorhorst."
Onvoldoende zekerheden
The province foresees unnecessary risks for Limburg society as a whole and Limburg businesses and the energy transition in particular, if Tennet's investment plans are implemented in their current form and pace, and thus remain unchanged. The IP is based on and was drawn up in the period prior to the connection stop for the network in Limburg and North Brabant.
Gedeputeerde Van Gaans-Gijbels: "The IP seems to have been created on the basis of the situation before the connection stop for large-scale consumers in the south of the Netherlands. The reality in the electricity infrastructure has recently changed substantially, as a result of which the priorities set previously need to be revised jointly. Despite the constructive and good discussions, the investment plans do not yet seem to move sufficiently with these dynamics."
Toezegging provincie
In addition to the possibilities offered by the province, Tennet has indicated in recent discussions that some measures may be brought forward by several years in the event that permits and applications are accelerated. In consultation with the network company, the municipalities, stakeholders and the Province of Limburg are meeting Tennet's request by intensifying the procedures. In this way the sustainability, expansion and attraction of new companies in Limburg and the rest of the Southern Netherlands can continue. The efforts of Tennet, the special coordinator for transport scarcity Ben Voorhorst and the government are crucial to this.
