Looop participated in the first edition of the Business Innovation Program Food, a joint program of the Regional Development Agencies (ROMs). As one of the ROMs, LIOF supported this passionate company.

LIOF and Looop

Kelly Vermeer MSc, background as an animal nutritionist and working as a Business Development & Innovation Manager at Looop, explains.

"We get the most out of organic co-products. For example by using them as ingredients for animal feed, as sustainable energy sources and for innovative, bio-based products. This creates less waste and less pollution, we generate green energy, we contribute to the production of circular innovations and we work on a healthy agriculture and food chain."

A matter of common sense

.

Kelly passionately explains why she believes in what Looop stands for: "A circular food chain is not only good news for our planet, but above all a matter of common sense. In this way, we are already recovering almost 2,000,000 tons of reusable raw materials every year - and as far as we are concerned, that is only the beginning!"

Looop is a versatile hub

Located in Venlo with roots in the agri-food sector. Kelly: "Thanks to our roots, we know exactly what this sector considers important. And with our own transport company we can switch quickly and flexibly, in a process that our partners can rely on. This is how we connect the links in the cycle and keep organic co-products moving."

"Moving Circularity Forward"

"How do we make the most of vegetable residue streams?"

Sjaak Berden, Business Developer at LIOF about Looop's participation in the Business Innovation Program Food: "In this program, startups and established companies work together on a business case around the valorization of waste streams and efficient use of raw materials. Looop researched how to use and broaden its network to better valorize vegetable residual streams. The Business Innovation Program Food fits well with the focus of LIOF on a number of transitions including circularity. It was therefore particularly nice and instructive to be able to guide a company like Looop that has circularity so strongly in its DNA."

A complex puzzle

Kelly adds: "At the moment many vegetable residue streams are lost because there is no good application for them. As a company we regret this, but personally it is my mission to do something about it. It is difficult because vegetable residue streams are released in a very fragmented way, have little nutritional value and contain a lot of water. All this makes it a complex puzzle to solve. But fortunately we at Looop love challenges!"

"We do love a challenge!"

"We do it together!"

Looop collaborates with many other companies in the chain. Kelly: "With producers of organic co-products on the one hand and potential buyers and users on the other. But also with processors who have innovative solutions for increasing the value of vegetables or other residual flows - often start-ups. Because we can't do it alone, we really have to go for it together!"

Looop goes for it, with total dedication

.

And that's what Looop does, with dedication: "We conform to two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations: Circularity and reuse of waste streams (SDG 12) is who we are and what we do, and we do it together with our partners in the chain (SDG 17). We are incredibly proud of that."

"We are committed to a world without waste"

Does Kelly have any tips for other entrepreneurs?

"Take a critical look at your business operations. There are always opportunities to improve in the area of sustainability. This certainly doesn't always have to cost money, but can sometimes even generate money. And what about the processing of organic waste? Then the solution is simple: call Looop! www.looop.company.nl
