Special seeder for farmers in southern Limburg

South Limburg farmers and gardeners can now use a special seeder made available by Province of Limburg. This seeder is designed to meet the challenges faced by farmers in the Hill Country.

Because the machine can sow at two different depths, the farmer only has to drive across his field once. This saves time and fuel. In addition, it is better for the soil and soil life and this method reduces the risk of erosion and water runoff. The purchase of such a seeder is very pricey for an individual farmer or gardener. Province of Limburg sees in this machine a solution to a social challenge, particularly because of the benefits in terms of water management.

Proposition Heuvelland

The purchase of the seeder implements the Heuvelland Proposition. This proposition offers perspective to farmers who want to organize their business in a sustainable and future-oriented way. Within the Heuvelland Proposition, work is being done together with the sector to reduce water nuisance, improve the environmental and water conditions of the nature areas and protect the soil and surface quality.

The Proposition Heuvelland will be implemented with the help of the sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), Limburg Water Board and Province of Limburg are contributing financially to the Heuvelland Proposition, but the Limburg Agricultural and Horticultural Union (LLTB) is also closely involved. Within the project there is, among other things, financial scope for the construction of landscape elements, support in cultivation measures, farm guidance and research (Wageningen University &Research) specifically on the loess soils for the benefit of the goals.

Machine deployment

In principle, any farmer and contractor who works plots in South Limburg and meets the conditions for use can use the machine.
