Plastic saving and detergent discount at refill stations Lidl
From today, Lidl is starting a 6-month pilot, investigating the extent to which customers are open to refilling detergent in-store. To investigate this, Lidl has placed refill stations in ten of its stores, where customers can tap Formil detergent and Doussy fabric softener in special reusable packaging. Thanks to the refill station, the customer not only saves plastic, but it also provides a benefit in the wallet. In fact, on each refill, the customer receives a discount compared to the first purchase.

Joska Sesink, Lidl sustainable packaging specialist: "Consumers want to reduce plastic, but how is often still a challenge. Through this pilot we make refilling packaging accessible to a wide audience and together save a mountain of plastic. As a supermarket, we are aware of our responsibility in terms of plastic reduction. That is why we have set ourselves the goal of reducing the plastic consumption of our own-brand packaging by 30% by 2025."
Without mess refilling and instant visibility into your own plastic reduction
.The refill stations contain the very latest technology, are low-maintenance, leak-proof and are located in the middle of the laundry shelf. Customers have a choice of four own-brand items: Formil color, white and black detergent and Doussy fabric softener.
The process works as follows: The customer takes a reusable package and places it in the refill station. The reusable packaging is then filled with detergent or fabric softener via the "smart cap. The screen immediately shows how much plastic the customer has already saved. When the detergent runs out, the customer simply takes the packaging back to the store to refill it.
