Speakers from business, government and research institutes informed some'100 participants on Oct. 21 about all the developments surrounding and application possibilities for hydrogen. Gasunie was present with a real hydrogen bike that set two Formula 1 cars in motion and let them race each other. And participants were allowed to test drive the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai.
'In the afternoon, the focus was on the Euroregion and the call was 'let's get to work as soon as possible and form consortia'. The urgency is there, the knowledge is there and the resources are available. The important thing now is to seek cooperation across borders. This is possible within the EMR H2 Booster project. Within the Interreg Euregio Meuse-Rhine (EMR) Hydrogen Booster we are looking for enthusiastic parties who want to participate in the following projects, but new initiatives are also welcome: 1. Develop and establish a Hydrogen Hub (Living Lab, test and demo-center) at Avantis (Heerlen-Aachen). 2. A bus connection with hydrogen buses between Maastricht-Aachen and Liège with associated infra as refueling stations and generation. 3. Hydrogen generation (electrolyser) at Saint Gobain and waste heat use in residential area Herzogenrath. 4. Hydrogen for inland navigation within EMR, tank infra, conversion of ships and bunkering.
