This partnership was clinched in Sittard-Geleen, at the site where Brightlands Circular Space is currently constructing the brand new open demonstration facility for circular plastics. With the construction of this demonstrator, Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Maastricht University and TNO are bringing all steps of the plastics recycling chain together in one location, from sorting and washing to granulating and producing new products. This facility, unique in the world, enables companies and researchers to better identify and address the causes of quality problems in recycled plastics, without having to first invest in technologies and expertise themselves, for example. It also allows them to significantly reduce the time-to-market of circular plastic products.
"But then we are not there yet," said Lia Voermans, chair of the Brightlands Circular Space Steering Committee. "The circular transition requires not only technology, but also new business models, innovative collaborations, new jobs and talent. And for that, above all, we need an inspiring, powerful, positive story that touches people and takes them along in the transition process to a circular economy. If we can also depict that, we are convinced that companies, designers, policymakers and consumers will have a much greater chance of making a real move. It is particularly pleasing that Rabobank supports our vision with enthusiasm and makes knowledge, network and financial resources available. Together with Rabobank and undoubtedly others soon, we are exploring how meaningful projects, such as our Experience Space for circular plastics, can contribute to awareness and progress."
Monique Luijten, Cooperative Director Limburg at Rabobank: "Brightlands Circular Space is a promising catalyst for the circular (plastics) economy. As Rabobank, we believe in the power of collaboration to accelerate societal transitions. In this partnership, we are committed to inspiring and connecting entrepreneurs, young talent and consumers, with a special focus on knowledge sharing, awareness and innovation. In this way, together we are building a future in which circular entrepreneurship, pride and imagination are central to making a visible impact in the (eu)region, the Netherlands and Europe."
