Available since April 1: the Limburg startup capital fund. A new LIOF fund for Limburg SMEs and startups looking for funding to turn their innovative ideas in the field of energy, circularity, health and digitization into concrete business. More than € 32 million is available.
The Limburg economy is focusing more and more on the transition to sustainability and circularity and on innovations in health and nutrition. Development company LIOF plays a role in this by financially supporting entrepreneurs with detailed ideas and plans.
These ideas and plans are based on the latest research and development results.
Funding
With subsidies, but especially with funding. "Banks and investors are reluctant to put money into a product or service that has yet to be developed," explains Patricia de Kort, responsible at LIOF for the seven-member startup team. "We do have venture capital available for the starter or SME with that beautiful, elaborate plan. This is then a loan that has to be repaid later or that we convert into shares."

Sustainability
Sustainability
In recent years, LIOF has launched several funds, and this year the Limburg Startup Capital Fund was launched. Purely aimed at entrepreneurs who innovate in the transition to sustainability. "A broad concept," acknowledges Patricia de Kort, "it can also be about digitalization in agriculture or logistics or the use of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare. The fund, through the province of Limburg and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has € 10 million available for the initial phase of a development and another € 22.5 million for further development or growth.
Train
Then there are other financing tools, but often it's banks or investors who step in. "That's fine. We are there to facilitate the start, to help the little train get going. We do that with funding and also mentoring. Start-ups and smaller SMEs in particular need support and networking. We give them that for free. It is in our interest to help the Limburg economy move forward and to make the transition.
LIOF supports innovative entrepreneurs in Limburg with advice, network and funding. Together with entrepreneurs and partners, LIOF is working towards a smarter, more sustainable and healthier Limburg by focusing on the transitions energy, circularity, health and digitalization.
