Entrepreneurs and research organizations that want to work together to improve and develop sustainable batteries can apply for grants starting December 16. The Circular Batteries grant allows them to develop innovations for long-life batteries, next-generation lithium batteries, battery systems for heavy vehicles and keeping our power grid stable, and battery recycling. The grant thus reduces dependence on scarce raw materials. And strengthens the Dutch position in the international battery market.
New generation batteries
.The Circular Battery Subsidy Scheme (CPC) provides reimbursement for the costs of an innovation project that focuses on:
- improving the current generation of batteries, such as lithium-ion batteries;
- the development of the next generation of batteries, which provide improved performance or use less critical materials;
Collaboration
.The grant is for entrepreneurs and research organizations who want to work together on innovations for sustainable and circular batteries. By circular we mean: maximum utilization and reuse of raw materials and materials. The partnership must consist of a research organization and at least one company.
€ 95 million with 4 separate budgets
Entrepreneurs and research organizations receive grants for an innovation project that focuses on one of the following topics. Each with its own grant budget:
- Recovery of critical materials by improving recycling steps of lithium batteries (budget €13.5 million);
- Development and application of long-life batteries and creation of a center of excellence (budget €25 million);
- Research and development of battery materials and production processes for next-generation lithium batteries (budget €22.5 million);
- Circular battery systems for heavy vehicles (budget €34 million);
Application for grant
.Subsidy applications can be made from December 16, 2024, 9 a.m. to April 16, 2025, 5 p.m.
.
National Growth Fund
.The National Growth Fund (NGF) is a major source of investment by the Dutch government, with more than €11 billion for 50 projects aimed at the sustainable economic capacity of the Netherlands. The CPC scheme is part of the NGF's Material Independence and Circular Batteries (MICB) program. This program is one of the initiatives aimed specifically at innovation and sustainability in battery technology and materials.
