A series of European measures aimed at accelerating the sustainability of buildings will come into force over the next eight years. The Netherlands will introduce the first tranche of the EPBD IV directive on 29 May. This includes additional charging points for electric vehicles, more bicycle parking spaces and solar panels for building energy generation. An overview.
The EU has put together a package of measures to ensure buildings are climate-neutral by 2050. On 29 May, the first tranche of the so-called EPBD IV directive will come into force in the Netherlands. This means, among other things, stricter obligations on the number of electric charging points at building parking spaces.
The measures covered by the EPBD IV directive will be rolled out between 2026 and 2033. They include measuring and exchanging the energy performance of buildings, the deployment of solar energy, provisions for charging points and bicycle parking spaces, information requirements for energy labels and rules for building installations.
