In addition to the inevitable zuurvlees and vlaai, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and their daughters also got to see a culinary Limburg innovation on King's Day: cultured meat.

During the royal family's visit to Maastricht, special attention will be paid to delicacies from the province of Limburg. At the king's request, the Dutch developer of cultured meat Mosa Meat has also been invited for this purpose.

Mosa Meat of Maastricht is one of the forerunners in the development of cultured meat. On the Onze Lieve Vrouwenplein in the city, founder Mark Post had a brief conversation with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima about this innovation.

The cells needed to produce Mosa Meat's cultured meat come from cows kept on a farm in the city. Recently, the Lower House passed a motion by D66 and VVD to enable tasting sessions with cultured meat. During the royal visit to Maastricht, there was no mention of this yet.
