In the coming years we in Limburg will join forces to make the business parks in our province more sustainable. This because of the necessary climate challenges and the challenges in the energy market. The aim is to help Limburg companies located on business parks to tackle this together and with targeted support.
In order to achieve this goal, the Province of Limburg is deploying the so-called SPUK scheme to make business property more sustainable. This is mainly used to set up or increase the degree of organization at Limburg business parks for the purpose of sustainability. Part of this is the realization of so-called energy hubs, where this can be a solution.
.The Limburg Development Company (LIOF), the Limburg Employers Association (LWV) and the Development Company Central Limburg (OML) together form a special consortium set up for this purpose. They are pulling together with, among others, the Limburg municipalities, RES-en, Enexis and the national Programma Verduurzaming Bedrijventerreinen (PVB) Nederland.
Energy hubs as a solution to grid congestion
We all face grid congestion: the overloading of the energy grid. Developing a future-proof business park that acts as an energy hub for its surroundings offers interesting opportunities. Strong energy demand and often supply from various parties converge in a small area. The demand for energy exists in many modalities; in the form of electricity, heat and (sustainable) gas. The solution can be found in making smarter use of the available energy together or making use of smart and sustainable generation or storage systems.
.
Project Verduurzaming Bedrijventerreinen Limburg (VBL)
.Under this name, the consortium will set to work. This involves close cooperation with existing park management organizations or business associations on the business parks. This integrated cooperation offers great opportunities. The consortium is financed from the SPUK scheme.
Purpose
.The goal is to set up or increase the degree of organization in at least 59 Limburg business parks in 2027 for the purpose of making these parks more sustainable. At 49 of these business parks, the primary objective is to set up and increase the degree of organization. And of which at least 10 sites are aimed at realizing an energy hub and/or climate adaptation projects. An ambitious but achievable goal.
Launch on September 25
.On September 25, the consortium, Enexis and PVB met with the Limburg municipalities at the Provincial House. The aim was to inform each other about the approach and possibilities. The intended outcome was a starter list of business parks. Specially appointed ambassadors will soon enter into discussions with the municipalities, park management organizations or entrepreneurs' associations at these sites about the status, possibilities and wishes. On this basis, the action plan will be sharpened.
