Leadership with impact for a sustainable future

In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly urgent, leaders are needed who are not only results-oriented, but also future-conscious. The post-bachelor program Green Leadership of Fontys Venlo responds to this need. This part-time course is designed for professionals who want to lead sustainable change within organizations. Training coordinator Janet Antonissen talks enthusiastically about the program: 'We train people who want to and dare to make a difference, precisely at the intersection of sustainability and leadership.'

For whom is this training intended?

The training is aimed at both novice and experienced executives. "We find that many professionals find sustainability important, but do not always know how to integrate it into their daily work practices," Antonissen explains. "Green Leadership gives participants concrete tools for this, with an eye for people, organization and society."

From systems thinking to personal leadership

The curriculum offers a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Topics such as systems thinking, circular economy and change management are central. At the same time, there is a lot of attention to personal development. 'It's not just about what you know, but mainly about how you act and include others in that,' Antonissen said. 'We challenge participants to reflect critically on their own values, choices and leadership style.'

An important part of the training is the practical project. Participants bring in their own sustainability issue from their work environment. 'That makes the training immediately relevant. You immediately apply your knowledge to a real situation," Antonissen says. "We see that this not only leads to personal growth, but also really contributes to change in organizations."

Green Leadership is also appealing to those looking to refocus or deepen. 'Sustainability is no longer a separate department; it must be in the DNA of every organization,' Antonissen emphasizes. 'Whether you are a team leader or project manager - there is a need everywhere for people who can steer sustainable development with vision and guts.'
