Wednesday, March 30, 1:00 pm. We are on location at CIVIL, Center for Innovative Craftsmanship for Installation Technology Limburg. The perfect place for the kick-off of the project "Virtual Simulations for (V)MBO". After all, CIVIL Roermond is the first Private Public Partnership in the Netherlands that is fully sustainable. Typical for this region (the Keyport region) in which education and business are well connected. And that is noticeable today....
This day there is an experience day for the VMBO and also the BBL students have a practical day. So there's plenty of activity. The ideal setting for further educational innovation in technology. The VMBO and MBO educational institutions - Quadrant, Den Hulster, Gilde opleidingen and IW Zuid-Oost - will be sitting around the table for the kick-off, together with partners STO, BlueTea and Keyport. The occasion:
Virtual Simulations for (V)MBO
."We develop a practice-oriented learning environment that is easy to use, up to date and scalable. Often a combination of Virtual- Augmented- and Mixed Reality with techniques like Holograms, Avatars and Gamification. Technology in itself does not solve anything. As a school you can buy a couple of VR glasses with a separate package but then try to get it to work. Moreover, how does it fit into your curriculum? And how does it contribute to the development of knowledge and skills?" This will be different!
"We actually bring practice and technology together. With interactive challenges, real-life scenarios and the possibility to monitor and stimulate personal growth on different levels. And that's only possible if you develop it in close consultation with education."
Why with Keyport?
Keyport Program Manager Ton Hagelstein on the rationale for facilitating this educational innovation: "Keyport is an economic partnership focused on realizing growth. For companies, for employment. We do this as an extension of the municipalities, based on the conviction: a healthy region has economic growth." Keyport focuses on social themes such as the transition from linear to circular and the impact of robotization and digitization. "With the goal of keeping business competitive and employees sustainably employable," Hagelstein continued.
"Our focus is on SMEs and the connection between education and business. Hence our involvement in Virtual Simulations for (V)MBO."
The Sequel to the Kick-Off
."Today the first brainstorm between teachers and developers," continued Dullens. "Which piece of installation technology are we going to work on first? In doing so, we mainly looked at the needs that exist at school. And how we can help close this knowledge gap with a virtual simulation." That afternoon, they discussed assembly boards (wooden panels on which a student can make and test a circuit) and the operation of heat pumps. To develop an initial topic of, for example, a "mini-game" in simulation, BlueTea will soon visit Het Kwadrant in Weert. "In order to properly establish the process there and thus be able to take the step towards development. The overall planning? Ready for implementation by the end of 2022!" To be continued.
