Keyport connects entrepreneurs in innovative energy project Holon Cranendonck

In the municipality of Cranendonck, a unique and pioneering project is underway: Holon Cranendonck. Here a local energy community is being created in which sustainable energy is cleverly generated, stored and utilized. The core of this project is Iron Power technology: energy storage in iron powder. With this, CO₂-free heat and electricity can be generated - a solution that directly addresses major challenges such as grid congestion, energy security and affordability.

From energy storage to regional energy security

The project brings together companies, knowledge institutions and governments in an innovative consortium. Think of Nyrstar Budel, which converts renewable electricity into iron powder, and Vlassak Beton, which will soon be able to produce completely fossil-free. An operational energy hub that serves as an example to other regions will be realized at the De Meemortel business park within a few years.

Holon Cranendonck shows that decentralized energy communities are not only technically feasible, but can also work organizationally and socially. The project offers perspective for housing corporations, industrial clusters as well as mobility.

The role of Keyport

Keyport provides the connection to the region within this consortium. We mobilize entrepreneurs, park managers and educational institutions to actively participate, organize meetings and demo events, and share the results through our network. In this way we strengthen the regional embedding and increase the chance that this innovative approach can soon be applied elsewhere in Central Limburg and Southeast Brabant.
