Developments around Artificial Intelligence and other digital technologies offer tremendous opportunities for the healthcare industry. A sector that faces challenges in many areas that put pressure on continuity of care and where there is a lot of potential through AI.
In Limburg, MUMC+, Zuyderland, VieCuri, Laurentius, Maastro Clinic, St. Jans Gasthuis and Brightlands are therefore uniting forces with the establishment of the Health AI & Data Alliance Limburg. This alliance, supported by the AI hub Brightlands and LIME, marks a great leap forward in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The goal: together make data available and develop AI applications for future-proof healthcare in Limburg.
Uniting forces for smarter care
.AI in healthcare is taking off worldwide, but successfully developing reliable AI algorithms requires, among other things, access to large amounts of data and images. By working together, the partners in the alliance believe they will have better-quality data, enabling them to develop more accurate algorithms. It should also make it easier to share algorithms. The Health AI & Data Alliantie Limburg facilitates this collaboration and thus increases the innovative power of Limburg.
.Helen Mertens, chairman of the board of Maastricht UMC+: "The pressure on care is increasing in all healthcare organizations, particularly due to the increasing demand for care and an increasing shortage of employees. That's why we need to work together and innovate where we can. For example, to reduce the burden of registration and the joint use of our data to make the best choices, also for the individual patient. All to keep healthcare in Limburg accessible and quality high. So this cooperation is an important step."
The future of healthcare
The Health AI & Data Alliance Limburg has an ambitious vision: by 2028, hospitals want to provide AI-assisted care. This means using AI for accurate diagnoses, administrative burden reduction and personalized treatment plans. The focus is on a few key areas:
- Regional data availability: Hospitals are collaborating on secure exchange of data used to develop AI applications.
- Development and implementation of AI applications:Concrete AI solutions are developed, shared and integrated into daily practice, for better and more efficient healthcare.
- AI readiness of healthcare professionals: Healthcare professionals are trained to make optimal use of AI applications.
