Analysis shows 1 billion government investment in healthy school lunch will save 2.7 - 4.8 billion.

23 September 2024 - The coalition agreement included an investment of 135 million euros in elementary school lunches. These school lunches have recently been a major topic of discussion within the House of Representatives.

Deloitte and Kokkerelli, with TommyTomato as a practice partner, investigated the short- and long-term effects of offering healthy elementary school lunches, providing insight into the consequences of such an investment. Deloitte's cost-benefit analysis now shows that a healthy school lunch more than pays for itself. A €1 billion investment in a national healthy school lunch program could yield up to €4.8 billion in the long run through health care savings and improved productivity. Thus, each euro invested could be recouped up to five times.
