A new student campus, more courses and collaborations between educational institutions: HAS, Maastricht University and Radboud University have plenty of plans at the Brightlands Campus in Venlo.

What will those plans look like, what is currently happening on campus and how will the ambitions affect the municipal desire to make Venlo a student city? We talked about that on Friday in Nedinscoplein.
Campus
HAS Green Academy and the University of Maastricht announced last week that they will collaborate on the Brightlands Campus in Venlo. The plans are part of a wider development in which the campus may grow into an environment where students can also live, eat and play sports. 'There are about 75 companies on the campus now,' said Ingrid Vermeer, CEO Brightlands Campus Venlo. 'It's a place where we accelerate innovation and grow talent. But we want much more than that. You should be able to learn, research, play sports, work and eventually even live there.'
New courses
Students from HAS Green Academy and the university will soon study and work together at the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo. New courses will also emerge from the collaboration. For example, HAS and Maastricht University will start a two-year course (Associate degree) in Food and Living Environment and an English-language Applied Biology course.
Development
At the table, Erwin Boom, alderman of the municipality of Venlo, Roy Erkens (Maastricht University), Ingrid Vermeer (CEO Brightlands Campus Venlo) and Judith van de Mortel (HAS University of Applied Sciences) talked about the plans and developments on and around the campus. According to Van de Mortel, one of the most impactful recent developments is growing without daylight. 'Huge strides are being made. Lettuce is already being grown under LED lighting. It is increasingly possible to control certain substances in the plant, the growth rate and grow more efficiently.'
