With a festive Harvest Festival at the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo, the North Limburg Region and the Province of Limburg, together with representatives of the national government, partners, initiators, administrators and involved organisations, celebrated the results and cooperation of five years of Regio Deal North Limburg I. This Regio Deal focused on the themes Future Farming, Vital & Healthy, Talent, Safety and Cross-Border Cooperation.

A Regio Deal is a cooperation between the national government, the province and the region. Together, they invest in the region's Broad Prosperity. For the Northern Limburg Region Deal, the municipalities of Beesel, Bergen, Gennep, Horst aan de Maas, Mook and Middelaar, Peel and Maas, Venlo and Venray are affiliated. Together, the central government, the province and the municipalities have invested more than €35 million in the region. The harvest of this Regio Deal: over 35 projects, each of which is creating impact!

Progress

Through these projects, progress has been made on the five main themes of the deal:

  • Future Farming: investments have been made in innovation and cooperation to develop sustainable and smart agricultural solutions, including at the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo.
  • Vital and Healthy: Attention to promoting healthy lifestyles and preventive care through cooperation between healthcare, welfare, education and municipalities.
  • Talent: Attracting, developing and retaining talent through practical collaborations in fieldlabs, in which students, educational institutions and companies work together on regional issues.
  • Security: An integrated approach to combat undermining crime and increase security in the region, including through the ACT!intervention team and campaigns such as 'Don't Look Away'.
  • Cooperating across borders: Cross-border cooperation with German partners and others has been strengthened to increase knowledge, innovation and economic clout in the region through joint projects, knowledge exchange and networking.

Deputy Commissioner Elianne Demollin-Schneiders (Regio Deals): "The Regio Deal has brought much to North Limburg. Thanks to the cooperation between governments, entrepreneurs, education and social partners, various projects and initiatives have been realised in recent years that really make a difference. For example, major steps have been taken in the field of Future Farming, with innovations in agriculture and food supply, and intensive work has been done to create a healthier and more vital society."
