High-tech security using drones is already innovative, but the way in which Limburg-based businesses will now pay for it is a new development. Since May 2026, the 24/7 LUGN Control Centre, staffed by drone pilots from LUGN Security, has been fully operational. It is based at the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen. The key development is the introduction of a subscription model. Businesses no longer need to purchase expensive drones themselves, but pay solely for their use (a turnkey service).

As the availability of well-qualified security guards declines, the pressure on business parks in Limburg is mounting. Time remains the greatest enemy in the event of an incident. By the time a security guard arrives on site by car, the perpetrators have often already fled. LUGN Security solves this problem from the air, using locally stationed security drones. These are installed on-site at the industrial estate but controlled remotely; when an incident is reported, they provide a view of the scene within two minutes, until security personnel from companies such as Intergarde or the police arrive.

“The use of drones is not new in itself; it is already happening on a large scale, for example at the NS and large companies,” explains Intergarde’s management. This so-called Security-as-a-Service model removes the financial barrier. Companies pay solely for the use of the drone. The meter only runs during an active patrol or when responding to an alarm. Trade associations can jointly deploy a drone to cover an entire business park, making this form of high-tech security accessible to individual SMEs as well.
