Are you an entrepreneur and have innovative ideas for the development, application or use of renewable batteries? And would you like to collaborate with a research organization? Apply for a grant with the Circular Batteries Subsidy Scheme (CPC) for innovations in new materials and battery components, production of battery equipment, battery systems for vehicles and the power grid, and recycling of batteries.

For whom?

This grant is for entrepreneurs and research organizations working together on innovations for batteries and systems in the battery chain, where sustainability and circularity are central. By circular we mean: maximizing and reusing raw materials and materials.

This partnership must consist of at least:

  • one research organization and one enterprise;
  • or several companies not related to each other in a group;

important for your application is that you clearly indicate:

  • what collaborations you are entering into;
  • what role each party has within the partnership;
  • what activities each party is performing within the project.

What do you get subsidies for?

You get a grant for an innovation for:

  • current generation batteries, such as lithium-ion batteries. For example, NMC and LFP batteries, which were the standard by 2023.
  • the next generation of batteries, which provide improved performance or use less critical materials, such as (semi)solid-state batteries, sodium batteries or batteries with advanced anodes (e.g., silicon or graphene anodes).

You can apply for grants for the following projects:

  • You are developing new materials and battery components.
  • You are manufacturing equipment for batteries.
  • You develop battery systems for electric vehicles and the power grid.
  • You provide recycling and reuse of batteries.
  • You do this in cooperation with companies and/or research organizations.

What expenses will you be reimbursed for?

Do you want to know more about the costs covered by the grant (eligible costs)? Check out the page Subsidy Rules Ministry of Economic Affairs.

You will not receive a subsidy for costs of activities for which you have previously received a subsidy.

How much subsidy?

  • You will receive a grant if the costs covered by the grant (the grant amount) amount to a minimum of € 125,000 (per recipient party).
  • For other project activities you will receive a maximum grant of € 300,000 per participant in a partnership. And no more than 5% of the total cost of the project covered by this grant.

Are you a company in the partnership?

You will get:

  • 50% of costs reimbursed for industrial research;
  • 25% of costs reimbursed for experimental development;
  • 25% of costs reimbursed for investment in test and experimental infrastructure;
  • 100% for other project activities with a maximum of €300,000 per 3 years;

These percentages may increase:

  • Medium-sized firms get an additional 10 percentage points of subsidy;
  • Small firms get an additional 20 percentage points of subsidy;
  • When collaborating with research organizations, we can increase the grant by 15 percentage points;

Example: You are a medium-sized company. You apply for a grant for industrial research and you collaborate with a research organization. You may apply for 50% + 10% + 15% = 75% grant.

Are you a collaborative research organization?

You will receive:

  • 80% of costs reimbursed for non-economic activities;
  • 100% of costs reimbursed for other non-economic project activities (maximum €300,000).

Conditions
