The Province of Limburg is helping small businesses save energy with a new grant scheme

Under this scheme, business owners can engage external professionals to help them take concrete steps towards becoming more sustainable.

What does the scheme involve?

A total of 1.6 million euros is available. The grant covers up to 90 per cent of consultancy costs, up to a maximum of €2,800 per business. Business owners are free to choose an expert and experienced adviser themselves, suited to their specific needs and sector.

Depending on your needs, the support can take various forms. For example:

• Having a sustainability plan or roadmap drawn up;
• Having an energy audit carried out;
• Seeking advice on making business processes more sustainable and optimising them;
• To gain an understanding of the financial, technical or legal feasibility of measures.

The appointed consultant must have demonstrable expertise. Once the consultancy process has been completed, the business owner must submit the consultancy report to the Province of Limburg, setting out, amongst other things, the specific options, payback period and potential savings.

Who is it for?

The scheme is aimed at micro and small SMEs: businesses with fewer than 50 FTEs and an annual turnover or balance sheet total of up to €10 million. Sole traders may participate if their business activities take place exclusively in business premises that are not used for residential purposes. Agricultural businesses are excluded from participation.
