MIT South Grant for Feasibility Studies and R&D
The SME Innovation Incentive Grant Program for Top Sectors in the Southern Netherlands (MIT Zuid) supports SMEs in the Southern Netherlands in setting up innovative projects. For example, there is a grant available for assessing the feasibility of a development and for R&D collaboration.
Grant for Top Sectors
The focus is on the four societal themes of the mission-driven knowledge and innovation policy (the so-called Knowledge and Innovation Agendas: KIAs), the further development of key technologies, and societal value creation. These are the KIAs within which the project must fit:
- the KIA Climate and Energy
- The KIA Circular Economy
- KIA Agriculture, Water, and Food
- KIA Health and Care
- KIA Safety
- KIA's key technology.
The government uses two tools within MIT Zuid to stimulate innovation among small and medium-sized enterprises: the feasibility project and R&D collaboration.
Feasibility Project
A feasibility study allows you to assess the technical and economic risks of a proposed development. This can be supplemented with a small amount of industrial research or development. This gives you a clear picture of the resources you’ll need to carry out the project.
SMEs wishing to submit a project would be well advised to take into account the substantive changes to the policy. For projects that are already focused on the various societal challenges, not much will change. For other projects, however, this may be the case. For more information about the context of the new policy, the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs), and examples, please visit www.topsectoren.nl and the Stimulus website.
For this program, applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The date on which the grant application is complete serves as the reference date. All complete applications received by the submission deadline are treated equally. The order in which these applications are evaluated is determined by a random drawing. Notification will be provided no later than 12 weeks after submission, and upon approval, 100% of the awarded amount will be paid out (up to €20,000).
R&D Collaboration
As part of an R&D collaboration project, at least two SMEs work together to innovate or develop a product, production process, or service. The ultimate goal is to drive further growth for your business. In addition, collaborating with another Limburg-based SME provides you with valuable knowledge.
The tender mechanism is used for this program. All applications that are submitted completely and correctly within the tender period and that meet the technical requirements will be evaluated by an external, independent advisory committee. A decision will be communicated after 12 weeks, and partial payment will follow. The first (maximum) 75% will be paid upon notification, and the remainder will be paid upon completion of the project.
