Webinar Content

Transport by water or rail offers major advantages for shipping virtually all goods. It is reliable, cost-effective, efficient, and results in a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. So the question isn’t really whether inland waterway transport or rail is a good option for you, but how you can make use of it. You’ll learn more about this during our webinar. Experts and business owners will explain how the switch to water transport works in practice.

Zelissen Logistics Services on the Advantages of Inland Waterway Transport

Zelissen Logistics Services transports more than 1,000 containers of auto parts annually from the Port of Rotterdam to South Limburg. Until a few years ago, this was done by truck; now it’s done by inland waterway vessel. “In terms of cost, inland waterway transport is more attractive for our client in China,” says Managing

Director Nick Zelissen. “For us, the advantage is that we know exactly when the containers will arrive. With road transport, that was much harder to predict. Thanks to solid agreements with the Barge Terminal Born, we can better manage our daily loading and unloading operations.” During the webinar, you’ll learn, among other things, what was the most challenging part of the transition from road to water, and what turned out to be easier than expected. You’ll also hear about the advantages and disadvantages of transport by barge.

What does shipping by vessel look like in practice?

With information on the following topics:

  • At what volume of containers per week or per shipment does inland waterway or rail transport become a viable option?
  • Is transport by vessel or rail also a viable option if your company is not located near a waterway or rail line? What does the pre- or post-transport look like in that case?
  • What storage options are available at the port or rail terminal?
  • What are the most common objections customers have to shipping by boat or train, and what are the solutions?
  • Specific examples: For which customers and types of cargo is transport by ship or train a good option?
  • What does the logistics service provider handle, and what tasks does your company no longer have to handle on its own?
