Smart Energy Hubs
In an energy hub, companies collaborate within a defined area. They balance energy supply and demand by jointly using, sharing, and generating energy. In this way, they use energy more sustainably, reduce costs, and make better use of the power grid to meet current and future energy needs.
In Limburg, the Province of Limburg and LIOF support entrepreneurs and business parks in taking these first steps. We bring parties together, help explore the possibilities, and point the way to knowledge, expertise, and support programs.
What is an Energy Hub?
Are you experiencing grid congestion? Are you unable to expand, make your operations more sustainable, or install additional solar panels because the power grid is at capacity? If so, an Energy Hub could be the solution.
An Energy Hub is a collaboration among businesses in an industrial park that intelligently coordinate their energy consumption, generation, and storage. By jointly assessing their energy needs, they often free up capacity within the existing grid. This allows businesses to continue investing in growth, sustainability, and electrification without being directly dependent on grid expansion.
An Energy Hub requires not only technical solutions, but above all collaboration between entrepreneurs, the grid operator, and other stakeholders.
How can we help you in Limburg?
Setting up an Energy Hub starts with thorough research. Which companies face similar challenges? Is collaboration a viable option? And what technical and organizational possibilities are there?
In Limburg, the Province of Limburg and LIOF support entrepreneurs and business parks in taking these first steps. We bring parties together, help explore the possibilities, and point the way to knowledge, expertise, and support programs. This gives you insight into the feasibility of an Energy Hub and the next steps needed to move from idea to implementation. We do this through the SEH grant program.
The Smart Energy Hub (SEH) program is a national subsidy program that runs from 2024 through 2030. The available budget is distributed among the provinces and Regional Development Agencies (ROMs), which are jointly responsible for implementing the program in their respective regions.
In Limburg, the Province of Limburg and LIOF are working closely together on this. Unlike many other provinces, they have chosen to make the majority of the available budget directly accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Take advantage of the LUPEH program
To develop Energy Hubs, entrepreneurs in Limburg can take advantage of the provincial subsidy program LUPEH (Limburg Energy Hubs Implementation Program).
This program supports partnerships among entrepreneurs in researching, developing, and organizing an Energy Hub. This includes costs for feasibility studies, process guidance, business cases, and other preparatory activities needed to get an initiative off the ground.
The Province of Limburg and LIOF can help you determine whether your business park is eligible and what steps are needed to take advantage of this program.
